Fraud Catches Blenheim Couple

A phone fraud operator targeted a local couple this week and likely got away with over $17,000.

Chatham-Kent police say early Monday morning the couple got a call from someone who claimed to be a bank employee and saying someone had fraudulently run up a $900 purchase on their MasterCard.

The Blenheim resident hung up but the caller called back and said the bank was working with the RCMP to prevent them from being defrauded and they needed help to catch a crooked bank employee.

Over the next couple of days the couple withdrew more than $17,000 and made nine Western Union money transactions.
