Body found in Thames River identified as missing man

The search for a missing Chatham man has come to a tragic end.

Chatham-Kent police confirmed on Wednesday that a body recovered from the Thames River in Dover Township earlier this week has been identified as 46-year-old Terry Want.

He was reported missing late last year and was last seen by a family member in Chatham on October 23, 2020.

Officers were called to Grande River Line to recover a human body in the river on Monday. Want was identified as the deceased during a post-mortem conducted in London on Tuesday.

Police had been looking for Want over the past several months and also followed-up on some unconfirmed sightings.

Although Chatham-Kent police are still working with the Coroner’s Office, Want's death is not believed to be suspicious.

Chatham-Kent police have extended their condolences to Want's family and friends.
