A Chatham man who has pleaded guilty to several burglary-related charges has been sentenced to serve time behind bars.
Michael Brown was sentenced in Ontario Superior Court on September 20, on four counts of break and enter and one count of possessions of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was sentenced to a total of four years in jail but since he has already served time in custody, there are two years and seven months of jail time remaining.
Brown was also ordered to pay $1,200 as part of a victim fine surcharge and ordered to surrender several items under a forfeiture order. Court staff told Blackburn News that there are about 10 pages worth of items Brown will have to return, including guns, ammunition, an undisclosed amount of foreign currency, and a credit card.
Brown has been given a list of conditions he must abide by, which include not speaking with certain people while in jail. He has not been put on a probation order following his sentence.
Court staff said Brown pleaded guilty to the five charges on September 6, while several other charges were withdrawn.
However, Brown does face a couple of other possession-related charges in the Ontario Court of Justice. Brown has another court date set for October 11.
