Theft of Tires in Chatham Township

Someone will have a tough time finding a use for a set of tires they stole.

The tires turned out to be for a Zamboni.

According to police, the theft occurred Tuesday morning around 4:20 a.m. Officers said an unknown number of thieves in a silver Dodge Ram pick-up truck went to a business on McCreary Line and stole the set of tires valued at $800.

Police added they weren't done there as four other sets of regular tires and rims valued at $8,000 were also stolen.

Man Charged with Drug Possession

An animal complained turned into a drug bust Tuesday night.

Police said they were called to the complaint just before 9 p.m. on Grand Avenue East in Chatham. Officers added the owner of the loose dog was found in an agitated state. Police said they tried to calm the man down, but he was uncooperative and was arrested for breaching the peace.

Upon being searched, the man was allegedly found with crystal methamphetamine.

After an investigation, police said the man had conditions to not possess any unlawful drugs.

Officers said the 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with drug possession and failing to comply.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and Enter in Chatham

Police said sometime between Monday at 11 p.m. and Tuesday at 8 a.m., an unknown number of suspects entered a garage on Smithfield Circle and stole approximately $700 worth of Ridgid power tools.

Transport truck spills load onto Highway 401

Chatham-Kent OPP pulled a 56-year-old man off the road Tuesday afternoon after getting a call about a traffic complaint on the westbound Highway 401.

Police said while they were responding to the complaint at around 5:45 p.m., they found a transport truck that spilled its load onto the highway near Orford Road.

Officers said the load in the truck had shifted inside the trailer, puncturing the front wall.

A 56-year-old man from Oakville was charged with having an insecure load.
