Utility pole manufacturer holding job fair in Tilbury

Any general labourers or skilled trades people looking for work in Chatham-Kent are in luck.

RS Technologies Inc., based out of Tilbury, has added a third shift and will be holding a job fair later this month to fill an undetermined amount of positions. The company manufactures patent-protected composite utility poles built to withstand tornadoes, ice storms, and hurricanes.

RS is looking for general labourers to work the line and skilled trades positions, including a maintenance millwright and maintenance electrician at the September 24 event.

According to Geoff Wright, economic development officer with Chatham-Kent, the municipality is teaming up with the company to put on the job fair.

"We are helping connect businesses with the resources they need," Wright said. "We are helping them access government funding, workforce development. We helped RS Technologies back in June along with a number of other companies when we held a job fair. RS reached out to us again and said they were hiring."

The job fair will be held at the Municipal Centre in Tilbury and will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. According to Wright this is just part of the municipalities plan to create more jobs and boost the economy.

"We are making it more affordable to do business here," Wright said. "There are so many amazing products made in Chatham-Kent. Those products have a big impact on our children and the future."

Speaking of the future, Wright said the average worker in CK is 53-years-old and the municipality is trying to focus on getting graduating students to stay in the municipality for work.

According to a release from the RS Technologies, anyone looking to apply should have previous manufacturing experience, but it isn't required. Job fair attendees are encouraged to bring their resume as the company will be conducting on-site interviews. For more information on the job fair visit their website or Facebook page.
