Damage is pegged at around $50,000 after a fire broke out next to a greenhouse on a rural road in Chatham-Kent.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services responded to the blaze at 29065 Connection Rd., just north of Baseline Rd., on Wednesday shortly before 9pm.
Operations Chief Chris Case says a forklift located in a shed next to the greenhouse caught fire, causing heavy smoke conditions in the area. He says firefighters from Station 5 were able to contain the blaze to the shed and prevent it from spreading to the greenhouse. Additional units were also called in from Station 6 to help ventilate smoke from the area.
Case says fire officials are still investigating what caused the forklift to catch fire, and investigators will be returning to the scene Thursday morning.
