Weekend Weather May Bring Rough Conditions On Lake Erie

Strong wind gusts and the potential for heavy rain could mean possible flooding for residents living along Lake Erie.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has issued a safety bulletin for those living along the Lake Erie shoreline and Erie Shore Dr. The bulletins come after Environment Canada’s Marine Forecast issued a strong wind warning for western Lake Erie.

"The Marine Forecast is predicting waves on Lake Erie to reach 1.5 m in height Saturday morning," the LTVCA said in a news release issued Friday.

Strong waves are expected to hit the shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County. Officials with the LTVCA are reminding residents to avoid the shoreline if the water gets too rough and keep an eye on local weather forecasts. As of Friday afternoon, Environment Canada is calling for a chance of showers and thunderstorms for Friday night and Saturday. However, Sunday's forecast looks like a mix of sun and cloud.

The safety bulletin will be in effect until August 26.
