Three Stunt Drivers Stopped On Hwy. 401

A trio of drivers with a need for speed were all stopped dead in their tracks on the Hwy. 401 Saturday by Chatham-Kent OPP.

Police say they pulled over the first driver in the westbound lanes of the highway near Orford Rd. just after 8am.

A 54-year-old woman from Toronto was allegedly going faster than 170 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. Officers stopped her and charged her with racing a motor vehicle and failing to move over for emergency vehicles.

The second westbound driver was stopped shortly after that, at around 8:30am Saturday, in the same area of the highway near Orford Rd. A 19-year-old London man is charged with racing a motor vehicle after allegedly driving faster than 150km/h.

The third driver was stopped about 12 hours later, at 9pm Saturday in the eastbound lanes of the Hwy. 401 near Merlin Rd. OPP say a 26-year-old woman from Peel was allegedly going faster than 160 km/h before she was pulled over.

All three of the accused have had their driver's licences suspended and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

Chatham-Kent OPP are also taking the opportunity to remind drivers that "stunt driving or racing is one of the most serious and reckless forms of aggressive driving" adding that "it puts everyone on the road at serious risk of injury or death."
