Kids Were Passengers In Alleged Drunk Driving Crash

Chatham-Kent police say a 44-year-old man who crashed a vehicle with his two young kids inside is now charged with impaired driving.

Officers say they responded to the single-vehicle crash on Middle Line at around 3pm Tuesday afternoon.

Police say their investigation indicates the vehicle was heading east when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and ended up in a nearby field. No serious injuries were reported.

Investigators say officers at the scene believed the man was driving under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him and took him back to police headquarters for more tests.

As a result of those tests, the man who was driving the vehicle was charged with having a blood alcohol content over the legal limit.

Police say the accused is not a resident of Canada, adding that he is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
