Grand Ave. Construction Taking Longer Than Expected

The long-awaited completion of construction at the intersection of Grand Ave. W and Lacroix St./Sandys St. in Chatham is getting pushed back a couple weeks.

The projected competition date was previously July 15, but Chatham-Kent’s Director of Engineering and Transportation Chris Thibert says it will now be August 3.

"During construction, we did uncover some additional work as a result of some poor condition infrastructure that we discovered that needed to be addressed as part of this project," says Thibert. "Upon discovering this, it did ultimately push back the schedule and added some extra work that we did not anticipate."

Thibert says these issues have now been addressed.

"Now, they're in the process of completing all the concrete work and they're going to be finishing up the asphalt," says Thilbert.

He says all the restrictions at the intersection will be removed on August 3, but there will still be some work done in surrounding areas.

"There will still be ongoing work in the boulevards and doing some light driveway restorations, but that will have little to no traffic disruptions on Grand Ave. itself," says Thibert.

According to the municipality's website, construction started at the intersection nearly a year ago on August 7, 2017.
