Ontario's police watchdog has wrapped up its investigation into an incident last summer in which a man suffered third-degree burns on 60% of his body.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) issued a media release Tuesday afternoon stating that there are no grounds on which to lay criminal charges against the officers involved in the case.
On July 1, 2017, Chatham-Kent police were called to a home around midnight to check on a 43-year-old man. Officers say the man was found in the backyard.
"During the encounter, the man doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire," a release from the SIU said.
SIU Director Tony Loparco says there is "no causation" between the actions officers took and the injuries the complainant suffered.
