Boater Rescued From Lake St. Clair

A boater is safe after going missing overnight on Lake St. Clair.

Ontario Provincial Police say the boater, who has not been identified, left the hang-out area on St. Anne Island Saturday afternoon, riding a green and black Seadoo Spark. Witnesses say the boater was wearing a personal flotation device.

The boater was expected back at the Mitchell's Bay Marina but did not arrive as expected. The OPP was called around 8pm Saturday to take a missing persons report, according to Constable Jay Denorer.

After several hours of searching, the Seadoo was located without the rider and a rescue operation was begun. The Canadian Coast Guard, the OPP's K-9 Unit, West Region Emergency Response Unit, Marine Unit and Aviation Services Unit; the Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Chatham-Kent Police, Walpole Island First Nation Police, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry all assisted in the search effort.

The missing boater was located around 4pm Sunday in good health. He was taken to hospital for an assessment.
