Start Of Local Fishing Tournament Delayed

A popular live release bass fishing competition has hit a bit of a snag.

Due to a high wind warning, the start of the event has been pushed back from Friday morning to Saturday morning -- it'll continue on Sunday.

This year's tournament is so popular that organizers had to turn anglers away.

The Canadian Tire Mitchell's Bay Open is in its fifth year and the spots filled up early.

"We reached our capacity of 75 boats before the early bird draw ended," says co-chair Tom Beaton. "We were actually at 85 boats when we realized we got to get on this and let everybody know we're full. We're very happy that we're reaching some milestones here."

Even though they're sold out, Beaton says people can still come out for the weigh-in from 3pm-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

"Coming out and seeing the weigh-in, checking out out silent auction, we've got some great prizes this year," says Beaton. "Just seeing what tournament fishing is all about, the excitement of tournament fishing."

Beaton says there are cash and prizes on the line.

"First place, there's about $15,000 in prize money and prizes. Compliments of Maple City Marine we have a brand new 25 hp, Evinrude Tiller, with prize money of over $8,000."
