Catholic School Board Approves Budget For Next School Year

The local Catholic school board has approved its budget for the upcoming school year, which includes new funding for special education programs and services.

The board of trustees for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board approved the 2018-2019 budget on Tuesday with an operating surplus of $969,430.

“This is a good news budget and the sixth straight year our Board has delivered a surplus budget,” says Michelle Parks, vice chair of the board, in a news release.

The school board has included a $1.1-million investment in the new budget, which will go towards special education programs and services.

"Our board recognizes the increasing demands of direct supports to students with special needs,” says Director of Education Deb Crawford. “The special education team has taken a thoughtful approach to the use of funding from the Ministry of Education for the 2018-2019 school year, which includes the hiring of 10.3 full-time staff to serve our students.”

The budget will now be forwarded to the Ministry of Education.
