Organizer Needed For Chatham Terry Fox Run

The Terry Fox Foundation is searching for a volunteer to take the lead on organizing this year's run in Chatham.

The 38th annual Terry Fox Run is scheduled for Sunday, September 16.

Pat McMahon, a long-time participant and supporter of the run, says the foundation needs a new volunteer to chair the Chatham Terry Fox Run.

"They're looking for people to take over the primary organizing of the Chatham Terry Fox Run," says McMahon. "They've got a pool of volunteers that can help out, but they just need someone or a couple to take the reins and lead the group."

The foundation will work closely with the volunteer chair and provide support, training, and materials to ensure the success of this year's run.

"Most of it is to organize your volunteers and give them tasks to complete, making sure the location is available and making sure all the permits are filed with the municipality and making sure you have enough volunteers the day of the run to mark out the route and to offer encouragement to all the participants," he says.

McMahon says experience in organizing groups would be a benefit, but it's not required.

"There are enough experienced volunteers that are going to helping out with the run that they'll get a lot of help along the way," he says.

McMahon says the sooner they find someone, the better.

"It's a worthwhile cause. I've been involved with the run since 1981 since it first started and it's a great cause to raise funds for cancer research," he says.
