More People Looking To Run In 2018 Municipal Election

Now that the 2018 Ontario election has come to an end, the focus is shifting to the upcoming municipal election in the fall.

A few people have filed nomination papers over the past couple of weeks, vying for a spot on Chatham-Kent council. Residents have until July 27 to file their papers and announce their candidacy.

Below is a current list of people running for a position on council. The names in bold are those who recently filed their papers to run in one of six Chatham-Kent wards.

Ward 1 – West Kent

Ward 3 – East Kent

Ward 4 – North Kent
  • Steven Scott
  • Joey Cyples
  • Dylan Robert McLay
Ward 5 – Wallaceburg
  • Randy McNeil
  • Carmen McGregor (current councillor)
  • Chris Glassford
  • Aaron Hall
  • Nicolas Cadotte
Ward 6 – Chatham
  • Les Banks
  • James Thompson
  • Michael Bondy (current councillor)

For the position of trustee, Pierre Lambert filed papers June 6. Other people running for the position include John Mrnik, Robert (Bob) Demers, and John Van Heck.

As for mayoral candidates, Councillor Darrin Canniff and local advocate Alysson Storey are the only two to file their papers. However, Mayor Randy Hope had previously said he will file his papers after the provincial election, which was on June 7.
