Chatham Field House Ready For Public Use (GALLERY)

Starting this week, soccer families will be able to take a washroom break or grab a bite to eat at a new field house in Chatham.

A new family-friendly field house/washroom facility will soon be ready for public use at the Center for Community Services Soccer Fields on Grand Ave. and Lark St. behind the Chatham-Kent Health and Family Services building.

The official opening of the facility will be held on Thursday at 6pm.

This new facility was created in partnership between the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Health & Family Services, the Chatham Youth Soccer Association, and Community Living Chatham Kent.

Chatham-Kent council approved $466,427 of funding for the new facility in 2016.

The soccer field sees an average of over 1,200 users each week.

The building consists of washrooms, a storage room, a canteen, and a sheltered area. It will be open for use during soccer activities and other community events throughout the summer months.

The family washroom will be open for public use daily from May until September seasonally and the main washrooms will be available during evening hours.

The municipality says the canteen, which is operated by Community Living Chatham-Kent, also acts as a job skills learning opportunity for people.
