Ken Schrader Headlines Lineup At South Buxton Raceway

The dirt track at South Buxton will be hosting a NASCAR legend this weekend.

Ken Schrader will be in town, racing in the UMP Modifieds division Saturday.

At 63 years old, the veteran racer says he still enjoys tearing up the dirt tracks -- partly because it's where he started out his career and also because he still loves the thrill of racing.

"It's kind of like playing golf -- if you were fortunate enough to be on the PGA tour for a number of years, probably when you get done you still want to play golf with your buddies," says Schrader. "So, we're still just racing at the dirt track."

Schrader says he enjoys touring around the smaller tracks across North America, too, calling them the "backbone" of the sport.

"In the US there are roughly a thousand race tracks and like 850 of them are the smaller tracks," says Schrader. "I just enjoy being a part of it."

The pits open at 4pm Saturday, the Grandstands open at 4:30pm and races start at 6:30pm.

Schrader says he's hoping for a good crowd.

"We hope people come out and come down and talk to us after the races," says Schrader. "We certainly enjoy it and it's fun to talk to race fans in different parts of the world."
