Pair Charged After Shoplifting Complaint

Chatham-Kent police say two people are facing charges after officers found some stolen items and some cocaine during a shoplifting investigation.

Police say they got a call from someone at the Walmart in Chatham at around 6pm Tuesday and were able to identify two suspects who they also connected to thefts at a local LCBO and a Pet Smart location.

As a result of their investigation, police pulled over a vehicle on St. Clair St. and took a 27-year-old Moraviantown man into custody. Officers say he had a small bag of cocaine and some stolen items from Walmart and the LCBO with him at the time.

A 51-year-old Chatham woman is also charged in connection with the case.

Police say she ran away from officers, but was taken into custody a short distance away.

Keys And Wallet Stolen

Police say they are trying to track down some keys and a wallet that were stolen from a residence on Patteson Ave. in Chatham recently.

Officers say an unknown suspect broke into the unlocked residence and stole those items sometime either Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Bikes Stolen In Ridgetown

If your bike gets stolen, it'll be easier to track it if it's registered with the local police force.

Chatham-Kent police are issuing that reminder after two touring bicycles were stolen from a storage unit on Erie St. N.

The bikes are valued at $600.

Three Crashes, Three Drivers Charged

Chatham-Kent police say they charged three different drivers after three separate crashes Tuesday.

Officers say the first one took place in the afternoon. A 23-year-old Wilkesport man is charged with making an unsafe turn after a two-vehicle crash on McNaughton Ave. near Reaume Ave. in Wallaceburg.

A 27-year-old Wallaceburg woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after that collision.

The second crash was on Wheeler Line near Davidson Rd. in Tilbury. It was also in the afternoon, involved two vehicles, and resulted in minor injuries. A 22-year-old Chatham man is charged with careless driving in connection with that crash.

The third case took place Tuesday night. Officers say a 21-year-old woman is charged with making an unsafe left turn after two vehicles crashed into each other on Keil Dr. S near Richmond St.

No one was hurt after the crash and the damages are estimated at $25,000.
