Chatham-Kent police say a 37-year-old man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly disrupted a church service in Wallaceburg.
Police say the man walked into a church on Elgin St. at around 11am Sunday and disrupted an ongoing service by playing the piano. Officers were called to the scene when the man refused to leave.
Police say they found the man on the stairs leading to the basement of the church and recognized him because he was currently wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.
At that point, the officer tried to arrest the man, but he allegedly pulled away, grabbed a chair and "held it in an aggressive manner towards police," according to a report from Chatham-Kent police.
Officers say the man then threw the chair to the ground and kept ignoring the officer's commands, so the officer at the scene tasered him and took him into custody.
Police say the man also allegedly admitted to having a steak knife on him at the time -- officers say they found it a few feet away from where he was arrested.
A 37-year-old Wallaceburg man is now charged with disturbing a religious worship service, escaping lawful custody, resisting a peace officer, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
