Hundreds Of Classic Cars Expected At RetroFest 2018

RetroFest will be a car lovers dream this weekend.

The OLG Classic Car Cruise starts at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Friday at 6pm. The route will go down Middle Line (old 98 Hwy.) through North and South Buxton, then head back into downtown where the cars can loop King St. for as long as they wish.

The Kent Historic Auto Club (KHAC) Classic Car Show will be held in downtown Chatham on King St. W and surrounding side streets on Saturday. Registration runs from 8am-11am and the awards will be hosted at 4pm.

RetroFest Car Show Chairman Len Langlois expects anywhere from 500 to 700 cars at the show if the weather is good. He says the cars travel from all over.

"We've had them from Toronto, Hamilton, Brantford, and all over Western Ontario," he says. "[There's] a lot of them from Windsor, Amherstburg, Leamington, [and] Detroit. We get a number of cars from there occasionally."

Langlois says any car is allowed in the show as long as it's 25 years or older.

"You get a lot of the modified or muscle cars. They seem to be very popular these days with the younger people," he says. "The elderly people stick to their antique cars that are 40 and 50 and 60 years old."

Langlois says this year's show is laid out very nicely.

"People can walk up and down the street and look at the cars. They don't have to worry about traffic and such," he explains. "The ladies love to go shopping because it's something for them to do instead of just sitting in a field looking at cars."

There will also be lots of live music, food, drinks, and vendors to enjoy at the event.
