Final Push Bike Ride Gets Underway

A 1,000 km bike ride that is raising money for new hospital equipment in Chatham-Kent kicks off Wednesday morning.

Organizer Dave Depencier says The Final Push event starts at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance's (CKHA) Wallaceburg site on Wednesday at 7:30am and finishes on May 28.

"The first day we're going to Stratford, then to Toronto, then to Hamilton and Niagara on the Lake, St. Thomas, and then back to Chatham," he says.

The pair has been training for the ride since January.

"We've been riding indoors a lot over the winter on our trainers just to kind of get our legs ready and train the body to sit on that seat for that long period of time," says Depencier.

The bike ride will raise funds for the CKHA’s Diagnostic Imaging Equipment Renewal Campaign.

"Being a co-chair [for the campaign], I felt that I should try to put something together," he says. "A good friend of mine Dan Van Moorsel is going to be riding along with me and the two of us are going to be raising funds to go towards the campaign."

Depencier says the ride will help pay for such much-needed equipment.

"I think we all realize and we all know how the diagnostic imaging and the CT scanner being the main piece is very important for our community," he says. "We definitely need to have this machine."
