Arrest Made After Robbery, Shooting In Chatham

A 21-year-old man is facing a number of charges after he allegedly held up a local convenience store cashier in Chatham with a sawed-off rifle.

Chatham-Kent police say that happened at around 5am Saturday at the 7-11 on Grand Ave. W.

Investigators say a man wearing a bandana on his face walked into the store carrying a sawed-off rifle and demanded money from the cashier. He reportedly took off, though, after he realized there was no cash in the till.

Officers say the man then crossed St. Clair St. and fired off a round from his rifle while he was in the area of Forest St.

The shot went through a second-floor bedroom window on nearby Joseph St., but no injuries were reported.

Investigators say they were able to identify a suspect who was arrested Tuesday night.

He is being held in custody pending a future court date.
