Chatham Starbucks Opening In Time For Summer

Coffee connoisseurs will be happy to know that the Starbucks in Chatham is set to open its doors June 1.

Nick Spanton, store manager for the Chatham location, says the coffeehouse located on St. Clair St. will have a full seating area and drive-thru. However, the drive-thru will have an added touch, where customers will be able to see the employee taking their order.

"It's going to be like a FaceTime type of thing where the barista that's taking the order is going to pop on the screen and we're going to be able to see the customer, and the customer will be able to us," says Spanton. "The location itself is coming along quite nicely. The only thing that still needs to be completed is the parking lot."

In addition to the drinks Starbucks is known for carrying, Spanton says they'll have a few drinks at the Chatham location that aren't available at others.

"We have a type of drink that's called the Nitro Cold Brew and so that's something that Windsor will not have yet but Chatham is getting," he says. "We're [also] going to have different types of coffees that only select stores get in all of Canada."

Although the store will open at the beginning of June, there won't be a grand opening celebration until after the store has been running for a while.

Spanton says the anticipation of having a Starbucks in town again is exciting, not just for him but for the community as well.

"We've created a separate Instagram account and we already have 700 followers," he says. "Chatham-Kent is so excited for us and we're ready."

In terms of staff, Spanton says they've hired over 25 people so far, but they're looking to have about 30-35 employees.

"We have done a lot of our hiring, that being said we're still looking for a couple awesome individuals," says Spanton.

Those looking to apply can do so by going to starbucks.ca/careers.
