Conference Being Held For Charities, Nonprofits

The Chatham-Kent Nonprofit Network is holding its Fourth Annual Spring Conference this week for organizations to learn more about healthy workplace balance.

The conference will be held at Club Lentina’s on Thursday from 8:30am until 3:30pm.

Chatham-Kent Nonprofit Network Project Coordinator Kim Broadbent says this year's theme is Generating Balance: People Vs. Paperwork.

Broadbent says the theme is meant to explore ways to maintain a healthy workplace balance that will promote social interaction in an everyday workplace. She says the keynote speaker for the event will be Pete Bombaci, who is the founder of The Generator Project.

"The Generator Project kind of stemmed from the big blackout in 2003 where he went outside and he started noticing the power is off but he's starting to see his neighbours come out and talk to each other," she says.

Broadbent says the conference will kick off before the Generator Weekend, which is held twice annually to encourage people to shut off their electronics and go out into their community.

"Throughout the day we have different sessions for our participants to sit in on and that includes decent work for nonprofits, being municipal election ready, risk management, Bill 148, planned giving, and new banking technologies for nonprofits," she says.

Broadbent says this year, around 60 to 70 participants are expected at the conference.

"It's nice to be able to kind of all collect in one spot and make some connections that maybe we haven't made before or build on connections that have been made previously," she says.

Broadbent says registration has already closed for the event, but if anyone is still interested in attending they can give her a call at 519-354-0430 or email her at CKNN@uwock.ca

More information about the event can be found online.
