Young Woman Killed After Vehicle Lands In Water-Filled Ditch

Chatham-Kent police say a woman has died in hospital after a vehicle drove into a water-filled ditch in Wallaceburg.

Police say on Friday just after 8pm, emergency crews went to the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Border Rd. in Wallaceburg.

According to police, a vehicle left the roadway and went into a water-filled ditch, landing upside down and becoming partially submerged.

A volunteer fire fighter and police constable were able to remove an 18-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man from the vehicle. Other police, fire, and EMS personnel arrived on scene and provided emergency first aid to the people.

Police say the man was taken to Sydenham District Hospital and then later transferred to Hotel-Dieu hospital in Windsor to be treated for hypothermia.

The woman was taken to Sydenham District Hospital in critical condition and died as a result of her injuries.

The names of those involved in the collision are not being released at this time.

Chatham-Kent Police Service says its members offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of everyone involved.
