Quiet Neighbourhood Shocked After Wallaceburg Murder

A Wallaceburg woman charged with first-degree murder remains in custody, as the local community reels following the death of a Dover Township man.

The 24-year-old Dover Township man was found dead at 57 Book St. in Wallaceburg Wednesday night. His identity hasn't been made public yet.

A neighbour on Book St., who doesn't want to be identified, says she's shocked because the house and the neighbourhood are usually quiet.

"There's been no trouble at that house [and it's] very shocking [and] scary," she says.

The woman who was arrested and charged in connection with the death, 25-year-old Kourtny Audette of Wallaceburg, made a video appearance in bail court on Friday. Audette will appear by video again May 2 for disclosure.

The neighbour says the young woman was crying when she was arrested.

"They took her out and put her in the police car [and] she was upset," the woman says.

Another neighbour says the young woman who lives at 57 Book St. has only lived there for about three months and she’s never seen the pickup truck in the driveway before.

Chatham-Kent police and the OPP forensic units were on-scene on Friday investigating.

Police haven't released the cause of death or the relationship between the man and the woman to protect the integrity of the investigation.
