Battle Against Drugs Continues In CK

Last year was a very productive year for Chatham-Kent police in terms of taking illegal guns and drugs off of the streets.

Officers say they recovered more than $1.35-million worth of marijuana plants from cornfields in 2017 and destroyed the 1,350 plants. Police say almost $500,000 worth of other illegal drugs were also seized last year along with 18 prohibited guns and nearly $50,000 in cash during drug investigations.

The local drug unit also targeted suspects who were believed to be the main drug dealers in Chatham-Kent, arresting three people who were allegedly the main drug suppliers in Chatham.

Police say they were living in Sarnia, but would allegedly pick up the drugs in Windsor, distribute them in Chatham, and then return home to Sarnia. Officers tracked them and allegedly found them carrying over $98,000 in cocaine, meth and marijuana.

The police investigation also led to the arrest of their alleged drug supplier in Windsor, who was unknown to Windsor police at the time. Officers say they seized 4 kg of pure cocaine in September in connection with that investigation.

All of the accused are still making court appearances and awaiting trial.
