Grand Ave. Construction To Start Up Again Monday

If you're used to taking Grand Ave. W near Lacroix St. in Chatham on a regular basis, you might want to consider finding a detour for the next couple of months.

Water main and sewer line construction work will start up again at that intersection on Monday, April 16 and that is expected to cause "major delays to traffic" according to a release from Chatham-Kent's Infrastructure and Engineering department. The construction project was put on hold over the winter after the contractor in charge ran into "unexpected issues" with some underground infrastructure.

The work is expected to continue until June 29.

While the construction is going on, Grand Ave. between Lacroix St. and Churchill St. will be periodically down to one lane in either the eastbound, westbound, or both directions in various locations.

In addition to those lane closures, the intersection of Grand Ave. W. and Lacroix St. will only be open to straight through traffic. No left turns will be available from April 16 - June 8 and no right turns will be available during that time either (except where signs are posted under certain conditions).

No specific detour routes will be posted, but municipal officials say drivers are advised to "use [an] alternative route if possible."

Once the construction is finished, the intersection will be wider and there will be a new southbound right turn lane added onto Lacroix St.
