Maroons Hire New Head Coach

The assistant coach of the University of Windsor Lancers is headed to Chatham-Kent to fill the head coach position for the Chatham Maroons.

Kyle Makaric will take on the leadership role for the Maroons for the 2018/2019 season.

"Kyle brings an eye to detail and a wealth of knowledge of player and team development, that the Maroons organization feel will benefit the team going forward," the hockey club said in a statement issued on Monday.

While Makaric was most recently coaching the Lancers during the 2017/18 season, he is also a former Maroon and played between 2006-2010, before moving on to play for the Windsor Lancers from 2011-2013.

Makaric became head coach for Windsor AAA Major Midget program in 2013 and capped off his tenure with an Alliance Championship in 2017. He was also an assistant coach with the Ontario Under 17 program in 2017.

Makaric will replace Head Coach Ron Horvat, who announced last week that he would be leaving the Maroons to join the Komoka Kings as their new head coach. Horvat joined the Maroons as their head coach in January 2017.
