Green Party Brings Message To Chatham

The leader of the Green Party of Ontario visited Chatham-Kent on Thursday hoping to make a breakthrough in June's election.

Mike Schreiner hopes to announce a candidate in Chatham-Kent soon and to win 1-3 seats in the June 7 election.

Schreiner says he wants to do politics differently and put jobs, people, and planet first.

"People are hungry for something different, they want change. They feel we have one establishment party that hasn't been able to govern the province effectively and we have another establishment party that hasn't been able to govern itself effectively over the last few months let alone the province," says Schreiner.

Schreiner also stopped in Sarnia on Wednesday, Windsor Thursday morning, and Kitchener Thursday night as part of his 20-city, 2,500km tour to talk about the party’s Green Vision for Ontario.

Schreiner says he's disappointed with politics and wants to revitalize the manufacturing base by retooling plants to produce clean products.

"Chatham has been hit hard by the decline in the auto sector and I want to revitalize those plants and get them running again and build those middle-class jobs again by investing in the economy of the future and not the economy of the past," he says.

Schreiner says Ontarians are embracing the Green Party more today because they realize 'The Greens' can bring 21st-century jobs.

"We have two parties of big business and one party of no business at Queen's Park and they're [voters] seeing 'Greens' as a party of small business. We're showing how we can invest in people and communities. Let's have health care to prevent illness instead of just treating illness, let's start investing in livable cities and caring communities," Schreiner says.
