Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a Chatham woman was injured while being arrested by police.
On Sunday at around 12am, Chatham-Kent OPP stopped a vehicle on Park Ave. E in Chatham.
Police say the female driver was arrested. During the interaction, the woman was injured and taken to the hospital where she was treated and released into police custody.
A 24-year-old woman from Chatham has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Failure or refusal to provide a sample
- Resisting a peace officer
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Fleeing while being pursued by a peace officer
- Obstructing a peace officer
The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police in which there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
