CK Flood Trash Collection Set For Next Week

Chatham-Kent has announced extra garbage collection dates for flooded properties in Chatham and Thamesville.

Municipal officials say residents and business owners who have extra garbage due to last week’s flooding will be able to have it removed during the week of March 5.

In Thamesville, regular garbage plus excess garbage bags and boxes will be picked up on Tuesday while excess garbage and bulk items will be picked up on Friday.

Chatham streets affected by flooding will be cleaned up on Wednesday and Thursday.

The municipality says all garbage must be contained in garbage bags, cardboard boxes, garbage containers, or tote carts if possible. If items like carpets or underpads cannot be contained then they'll need to be bundled and tied and cut up into five-ft. lengths.

It must not weigh more than 44 lbs so that the contractor can handle it.

Bulk items such as furniture damaged by the flood will also be collected.

Anyone outside of the flood area who experienced water damage and needs assistance or has extra garbage is asked to call the Civic Centre at 519-360-1998 to log their issue with the proper department.
