Company Fined After Worker Injured

An incident in Chatham that critically injured a worker a year ago has led to a hefty fine against a Kingsville company.

The Ministry of Labour says a worker was pulled into traffic on O'Neil St. as he unwound a cable from one area and pulled it to another area down the street. The company was relining Chatham's municipal sewers February 28, 2017.

The ministry says the cable was caught and pulled by a passing vehicle because the distance between the two work areas was several hundred feet apart and there was no protection from passing traffic.

Liqui-Force Services was fined $50,000 in Chatham court on Tuesday.

The ministry says Liqui-Force did have a traffic protection plan in place but it failed to ensure there was adequate protection from vehicular hazards while the cable was being unspooled between the two protected areas.
