Coldest Night of the Year Walk

The annual Coldest Night of the Year Walk is taking place in Chatham tonight.

It's the biggest fundraising event of the year for the NeighbourLink Network.

"We're hoping a lot of folks come out. We had a lot come out last year, probably around 125, somewhere in that neighbourhood," says Coordinator Alan Baker. "As far as fundraising goes, we're about 40% of the way there."

Baker says their goal is to raise $30,000 for their various programs.

"We provide free transportation for people in need, people who can't afford vehicles and they still need to get to medial appointments, or the food bank. We also provide basic financial management for people who are interested in that. And we also do something else called Friendly Visits. It's something that we are developing right now, and it's really to combat the problem of loneliness."

The fundraising walk gets underway at 5pm at the former Pines Chapel on Ursuline Ave. in Chatham.
