CK Chamber Honours Local Habitat For Humanity

The Chatham-Kent branch of the Habitat for Humanity is getting ready to celebrate a big honour locally.

It's being recognized by the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce as the "Corporate Citizen of the Year."

Nancy McDowell with the local habitat for humanity group says she's not sure who nominated them for the award, but she'd like to say thank you.

"It's nice once in a while to get that little bit of recognition," says McDowell. "We know we do great work in the community, but it's really nice to get an award sometimes."

McDowell says one of their notable services in the community includes the Habitat ReStore, which re-sells used items to support their Build Program. That program is going to be building a home in Pain Court this year for a single mother of two girls who will be purchasing the house interest-free with a geared-to-income mortgage.

The 130th Annual Business Excellence Awards will be handed out on Thursday, April 12 at Club Lentinas in Chatham.

The other winners this year include:

- Business of the Year (Small): Hub Creative Group

- Business of the Year (Medium): Chatham Breakfast House and Grille

- Youth Entrepreneur of the Year: Jeremy Dean, Steven Peach

- Young Business Individual of the Year: Christine Fairbairn

- Business Individual of the Year: Magdiel Hoste
