Children's Treatment Centre Gets Funding Boost From Rexall

Thanks to a donation to the Children's Treatment Centre, special needs kids in Chatham-Kent will soon have more equipment and different spaces to play.

Rexall Foundation presented the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent with a cheque for $5,000 on Wednesday.

Recreation Therapist Alison Munro says the money will go towards the centre's Adapted Recreation Services.

"Here at the centre, we offer a variety of programs through our adapted rec program. They're all kind of seasonally-based so no season ever looks the same," explains Munro. "They're basically programs designed for children with special needs who often have barriers to accessing community-based programs."

Munro says on average, there are about 75 children enrolled in the program each year throughout different activities and events.

"Our program is not funded by ministry funding, so this will go towards equipment, facility rentals, and all sorts of different things to be able to run these programs," she says.

Nauman Shaikh, who is the regional representative for Rexall, says he plans to make this an annual event and is looking forward to years of partnership with the centre.

"Rexall Foundation has been very motivated and proactive in funding foundations or events like [this]. We do a lot of work with Camp Oochigeas and Make-A-Wish Foundation so this came up and it kind of fits right into what we want to do, so that's how we partnered with this program," explains Shaikh.
