Chatham-Kent fire officials say two people escaped with minor injuries after a grease fire at a Blenheim home this weekend.

The fire department says on Sunday at around 6:30pm, firefighters went to a residence at 21179 Communication Rd. in response to a residential fire.

According to fire officials, it was a grease fire that started in the kitchen.

Public Educator Whitney Burk says fire crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.

Burk says two people escaped with minor injuries. She notes that the home had working smoke alarms.

According to a tweet from the CK Fire Department, $60,000 worth of property was lost and $100,000 worth of property was saved.

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after a Wallaceburg home was broken into.

Police say sometime between February 4 and Sunday in the area of Stewart Line in Wallaceburg, an unknown suspect broke through the basement window of the residence.

According to police, the suspect stole two flat screen TV’s and some jewelry.
