Wagner, Maroons Tame Vipers 7-0

The Chatham Maroons dominated in a 7-0 win over the LaSalle Vipers Sunday at Memorial Arena.

Chatham picks up two points for 47 in the GOJHL Western Conference, good for sixth place. The Vipers sit at 62 points and in third place.

Ryan Wagner stopped all 35 Vipers shots in the net for Chatham. He says his defensive line made his job easy.

"I was able to see pretty much every shot, and there were a couple of huge saves," says Wagner. "It was great, they had a lot of good blocked shots that really helped me out."

The Maroons broke the scoreless tie at 5:02 in the first period with a Bryce Yetman goal.

Chatham then broke it open in the second stanza. Yetman scored again on a short-handed goal at 9:17. Dane Johnstone then scored back-to-back goals within 18 seconds of each other, both of them also short-handed. The Maroons held a 4-0 lead at the second intermission.

Three more goals came off Maroons' sticks in the third period. Noah Bushnell, Josh Supryka and Jordan Frasca were the scorers in order.

Dershahn Stewart was pulled from the LaSalle net in the second period and replaced by James Walker. They combined for 36 saves.

With a three-game winning streak going, Wagner says he hopes they can carry some momentum into the final four games of the regular season.

"We're starting to realise that playoff time is coming. We need to focus and we're really starting to buy in together. It's really working out well for us," says Wagner.

The Maroons travel to St. Marys Monday for a Family Day matinee with the Lincolns. The Vipers host the Lincolns in their next game on Wednesday night.
