A statement of claim has been filed against a Chatham lottery winner and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
Denise Robertson's lawyer, Steve Pickard, filed it in court on Monday claiming that Maurice Thibeault breached her trust, got unjust enrichment, and deceived Robertson. Robertson is seeking half the $6.1-million winnings from a Lotto 649 jackpot prize on September 20. She is also seeking $500,000 in damages.
Robertson is Thibeault's former girlfriend. On September 25, Robertson returned home from work and was shocked to find that Thibeault had moved out.
"Robertson has faith that a jury will do the right thing, if Mr. Thibeault will not," Pickard says.
Thibeault picked up his $3-million cheque from the OLG January 4. The defendants have 20 days to respond or the matter will go to trial.
