Beer Coming To Chatham Grocery Store

In less than two months, you'll be able to pick up a six-pack of beer at the Walmart in Chatham.

Starting in April 2018, the province is expanding beer and cider sales to 87 more grocery stores across Ontario, including the Walmart store at 881 St. Clair St.

A release from the province says the winning stores "were selected via a competitive bidding process held by the LCBO." They're joining over 200 grocery stores that are already authorized to sell beer and cider.

There are still some rather strict conditions, though, including:

- Beer and cider may only be sold between 9am and 11pm Monday-Saturday and between 11am and 6pm on Sunday

- Beer and cider may only be sold in a six-pack or less or up to 750 mL per container

- Staff selling alcohol must be a minimum of 18 years of age and be trained on Ontario's standards for social responsibility, including making sure customers under the age of 19 and intoxicated individuals do not purchase alcohol

- Grocers are required to adhere to uniform and minimum pricing for wine, beer and cider
