CK Children’s Treatment Centre Gets Another Boost

The Chatham-Kent Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation has received more money for its new building.

The Sertoma Foundation presented a $250,000 cheque on Thursday. The non-profit group serves the community and helps people in need.

“The Sertoma Foundation of Canada helped fund the CTC’s current building’s audiology wing, and we wanted to carry on the support of this program to the future building to meet the needs and services of our community,” stated Tammy Craeymeersch, president of the Sertoma Foundation of Canada.

The Children’s Treatment Centre provides services to one in nine children and youth in Chatham-Kent and is expected to serve one in five by 2019.

The donation is part of a $6-million local fundraising goal to trigger provincial funding for a new and larger $28.5-million "Butterfly Building."

Executive Director Donna Litwin-Makey says a larger, state-of-the-art facility is needed to better accommodate the growing caseload in the community.

Since receiving funding for the existing building in 1984, the centre has grown from serving 237 clients to now serving almost 3,100.

There’s no date yet to start construction.
