Two Arrests After Parking Meter Stolen From CKHA

A pair of Chatham men are facing charges after allegedly trying to steal a parking meter from the hospital in Chatham.

Police say officers arrived at the scene on Grand Ave. W at around 11am Sunday after getting reports from the public about two men stealing a parking meter. Police say when officers arrived, they saw two men breaking into a meter on Pegley Ct.

The men allegedly ran from police, but officers say they were arrested a short distance away with a parking meter and some backpacks allegedly in their possession. Police say when they searched the backpacks, they found screwdrivers, bolt cutters, and other tools that are often used in break-and-enter incidents. Police allege that they also found some methamphetamine and some marijuana on one of the suspects.

A 27-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arrested and are now facing a number of charges in connection with the incident.
