Pork Conference Comes To CK

Pork producers will learn all about the latest technologies in the industry at the upcoming South Western Ontario Pork Conference (SWOPC).

The 56th annual conference is set to take place at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus on February 21.

Chair Darrin Sloan says one of the highlights at the conference will be guest speaker, Dr. Dale Rozeboom from the University of Michigan.

"He's a professor and extension specialist in the department of animal science [at the university]," says Sloan. "He's going to enlighten us with how we can get most bang for our buck out of our animals, and how to do that effectively and humanely."

Conference attendees will get a chance to check out the new campus swine teaching facility from 12pm-2pm. Later in the afternoon, the trade show area will open and swine producers can get advice from over 30 industry partners.

With this being the 56th annual event, Sloan says there's definitely an increase in the number of attendees.

"Actually last year, I believe was one of our higher attendances in probably the last 10 years," he says. "We usually have about 200 plus people registered."

People who register before February 14 will get a discount. Pre-registration is $25 for adults and $10 for students. Registration after February 15 or at the door will cost $40.
