Thanks to a hefty donation, local "furry felines" can get spayed or neutered for free.
In a media release sent earlier this week, the Pet and Wildlife Rescue said they received a $14,500 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada.
The donation will be used to provide 250 free spays/neuters to cats whose "parents" live in Chatham-Kent.
“We’re proud to support Pet And Wildlife Rescue with this grant that will bolster the organization’s spring kitten intervention plan by offering subsidized spay/neuter procedures for the pets of residents in the Chatham-Kent region,” said Dani Mailing, regional relationship manager for PetSmart.
Meanwhile, Operations Manager Myriam Armstrong said the local organization is excited to bring the cat population in the municipality to a more sustainable level.
“By spaying or neutering our feline population, we hope to prevent unplanned litters and enhance the perception of cats in our community as treasured members of our families,” said Armstrong.
The first opportunity residents can register to have their cat spayed/neutered is on February 2, at the PetSmart store in Chatham from 5pm-8pm. As stated in a media release, applicants will have to prove they live in Chatham-Kent. There is also a rule where only one cat per family can get spayed/neutered.
