CK Hospitals Being Given Back To The People

Chatham-Kent's hospitals will soon be back to local public governance.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance is going to a single corporation and board of directors to govern both the Chatham and Wallaceburg hospital sites.

CKHA received 32 applications from people wanting to join the new board of directors and only a couple are from outside the municipality. Twelve directors will be selected — one from each of the six wards, one from the First Nations community and five at large to ensure proper representation of Wallaceburg and other rural communities.

Hospital Supervisor Rob Devitt says interviews start next week with training beginning next month. Devitt says there are good, skilled candidates and will spend March monitoring board meetings before he asks the province at the end of March to leave his position. He says a coach will be put in place after he leaves to give hospital officials advice.
