A few municipal officials will represent Chatham-Kent at the upcoming 2018 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto.
The ROMA conference consists of several information sessions and workshops regarding topics such as rural education, health care in relation to marijuana legalization, waste management, and municipal elections.
Mayor Randy Hope and councillors Carmen McGregor and David VanDamme will be at the three-day conference.
According to a media release, this will be the last major municipal conference before the provincial election takes place.
Hope said in the release, the conference acts as a way of reminding the provincial government of the issues that face rural communities such as Chatham-Kent.
"We sometimes need to remind the provincial leaders that there is a province outside of the GTA,” said Hope. “There can be some tunnel vision at Queen’s Park.”
Along with the many municipal officials set to attend, Premier Kathleen Wynne, PC leader Patrick Brown, and NDP leader Andrea Horwath will be at the conference.
The ROMA conference starts January 21 and runs until January 23.
