A Chatham woman will represent the new democrats for Chatham-Kent—Leamington in the upcoming provincial election
Jordan McGrail has been nominated as the NDP’s candidate for the riding. She recently won the nomination election over the weekend.
"I have strong rural roots in the community," she says. "I'm offering [residents] my ears to hear your concerns, and my skills, energy and heart to bring the government back to doing their job."
As a long-time resident, McGrail says she has noticed changes within the community over the past few years.
"There needs to be a voice [in the riding], [residents] need to be heard, they need someone to advocate for the community with issues like underfunded hospitals [and] schools" she says. "I feel that the Liberal government is doing a disservice to our community."
McGrail says she plans on helping NDP Leader Andrea Horwath in the stride towards pharmacare, where Ontarians of any age are eligible for free prescriptions, as well as lowering hydro costs.
"I believe we need to refocus our provincial government on Chatham-Kent-Leamington," she says. "We need to get back to taking care of our community, ensure the proper supports are in place to take care of our workers, take care of our aging loved ones [and] put funding back into our hospitals."
McGrail is a mechatronics technologist and acts as a mentor for women looking to work with technology.
