Region's Cold Streak Nears End

Residents will be happy to hear the region's cold streak should end by early next week.

Environment Canada Severe Weather Meteorologist Haizhen Sun says London was the only city in the region to meet record cold temperatures.

"It's a tie actually with the 1970 record. London also got to -22.2c on [Friday]," says Sun.

Sun says while Windsor and Chatham did not break a record, they followed close behind.

"It's a very cold artic air mass moving down to Southern Ontario," says Sun.

Sun says residents can expect the cold temperatures to let up by Tuesday.

"There is a low-pressure system coming Sunday, into Monday and Tuesday. With the clouds coming and the southwest winds, the temperatures will warm up," she says.

Sun says she thinks the extreme cold warning will likely last in the region until late Saturday evening or Sunday morning. She expects the windchill value to reach near -30c before the warning ends, depending on the strength of the winds.
