A Chatham man has been charged with assault with a weapon after a heated argument with two other people he knows.

The man was released from custody in November with conditions to not to possess any weapons. However, police say in the early morning hours of December 30, he allegedly sprayed the victims with a substance believed to be similar to bear spray during the altercation. Both victims received medical treatment at the hospital for irritated and swollen skin and were discharged.

The 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested on Thursday morning on Raleigh St. and Lorne Ave. in Chatham.

Theft charges have been laid against a Chatham man.

The man was released from custody in December with conditions not to attend Walmart in Chatham. Police say on December 23, the man was caught on video surveillance at the Chatham Walmart exiting the store without paying for a shopping cart full of merchandise. Investigators say the man allegedly ran away when was approached by store security.

The estimated value of items in the shopping cart was $1,200.

The 30-year-old man was arrested at his home on Thursday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police have arrested a Chatham man after a woman he knows called police.

Police say the man was released from custody in June with conditions to not communicate with the woman and not be within a certain distance of her. She called police Thursday night because the man showed up at her Chatham home and would not leave.

The 49-year-old is charged with failing to comply with his conditions.
